ETHNIC GROUPS
-------------------------- SEP 1988 by Le6 Tro5ng Hie61u, VN Consulting Inc.,
62-65 Saunders St., Suite 1B, Rego Park, NY 11374.
The first natives of Vie65t Nam originated from the Hu2ng or La5c,
specialists in wet rice cultivation and inventors of the bronze drums, who
inhabited the Red River Delta, and the Mu7o72ng, from the mountainous
regions. Following them came the Vie65t, an ethnic group from the coastal
and Southern provinces of the Chinese Empire which were part of Ba1ch Vie65t.
The Vie65ts established themselves in the coastal regions, gradually making
their way inland until they reached the high regions, inhabited by the native
La5c people. During the third century B.C., the La5c Vie65t was annexed by
A6u Vie65t, one of the Ba1ch Vie65t states from Kwang Si. The Vietnamese
population's southward expansion added the native Malayo-Indonesian to these
original ethnic groups. The intermingling between these races has produced
the Vietnamese race of today. The remains of five races have been found in
Vie65t Nam: Australoids, Indonesians, Melanesians, Mongoloids and Negroids;
the most predominant of these being the Indonesians and the Mongoloids.
